Sponsored by the English Speaking Union, Greenwich Branch

On behalf of Smith Middle School and Coach John Rook, The Connecticut Middle School Debate League invites you to our season-opening Novice Level Scrimmage and Open Level Tournament.

Novice and Open Level debaters will debate on both sides of the prep-ahead motion during Rounds 1 & 2: This House supports federal congressional term limits. (Background info here.)

For Round 3, Open Level debaters will debate a different motion extemporaneously, as explained in the Handbook on pages 2-3. Novice debaters will attend a workshop on extemporaneous debating to prepare them to debate extemp at the December 13 tournament.

Please review the CTMSDL Handbook for information on the format and rules. It is up to coaches to decide which category (Novice or Open) is appropriate for each of their teams (see page 4 of the Handbook).

Coaches should register on Tabroom.com for the event CTMSDLNov1. Find Tabroom instructions here. There is no cap on the number of teams a school may enter.

Coaches should register one judge per every 2 teams entered. Coaches should make sure their judges understand the information in the Judges’ Instructions and the Handbook prior to the event. Observers are welcome.
