February 28, 2026 Results
On Saturday, February 28, 2026, 343 middle school debaters from 20 schools competed in the CT Middle School Debate League’s first ever all extemporaneous tournament. Students debated motions including: This House regrets the existence of Valentine’s Day, and This House opposes the narrative that the primary purpose of education is to secure employment. 94 volunteer judges made the day possible. Shaiyna Chhillar from Westfield Academy was the first place speaker.
The Westfield Academy team of Raja, Li & Chhillar took the first place team award. Teams from Westfield Academy, Bethel, Middlebrook (Wilton), Amity, Walter C. Polson (Madison), Timothy Edwards (South Windsor), Smith (Glastonbury), and Hamden Hall won all 3 of their debate rounds.

The CTMSDL’s next tournament will be held at Central Middle School in Greenwich on April 25, 2026.
